Badminton federation selects players for international events
The Lao Badminton Federation has selected 26 talented players at the beginner and junior levels to compete in four international events this year.
The group comprises 11 male and two female players at the beginner level, together with 13 boys at the junior level.
They will compete at the South-East Asia (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, in May, the Asian Games in China in September, the Asean University Games in Thailand in July, and the Asian Youth Games in China in December.
Last weekend, the badminton federation selected talented players in each division during events at the Chao Anouvong stadium and the Lao-Thai gymnasium in Vientiane.
The selection process was attended by the Vice President of the Badminton Federation, Mr Viengsavanh Sengchanh, officials and trainers, with 66 players from Vientiane and six provinces taking part.
Federation officials chose players based on their fitness, speed, strength, skill level, and their overall ability in singles and doubles matches.
Officials praised the level of talent among the players, who were all keen to impress the selection panel and be chosen to represent Laos in overseas competitions.
Those who were selected for the national team will continue to train and develop their skills so they are ready to compete at international events during the year.
