The meeting took place between the Ministry of Education and Sports and Xieng Khuang provincial authorities, who will jointly organise the games.
Xieng Khuang will also host the 3rd National Disabled Games immediately following the National Games.
The disabled games will be co-organised by the ministry’s Department of Sports for All and Physical Arts Department.
The National Games will feature 28 sports, which will be divided into five groups.
Other provinces and some ministries will prepare athletes to attend the games.
Competitions will be staggered, with two or three different events taking place each week to reduce crowding and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Xieng Khuang will organise the games, while the competition organising committee will make sure sufficient budget is available as well as oversee safety measures.
The main stadium will be inspected to ensure everything is in place for the opening and closing ceremonies, and a budget is being drawn up for use by the competition organising committee, repair of sports facilities, provision of accommodation, and other requirements.
The opening ceremony will be attended by sports teams from provinces and ministries.
Provincial officials will prepare performers for the opening ceremony and will limit the number of people attending.
The main football stadium, which will be used for most events, was built in 2019 and is in good condition.
The last National Games was hosted by Oudomxay province in 2014.
Saravan province’s athletic federation held a track and field event to select the best athletes to represent the province at the National Games.
Last month, Savannakhet province’s Songkhone district hosted a provincial games event which included football, volleyball, sepak takraw, petanque, and track and field competitions and was attended by 328 athletes from three districts.
The most talented athletes were selected to represent Savannakhet at the National Games.
